Care Is …. is a podcast series stemming from the work of 2 research networks: CareOrg and ReloCare. Both networks look at the intersection of elderly care and mobility in Europe. Exploring a broader socio-economic ecosystem that enables different forms of elderly care, the podcast series seeks to map a broader network of actors, practices, structures, and imaginations of care. The series contains case studies from Ukraine, Czechia, Hungary, Germany, the Netherlands, Romania, discussing care options and institutions, working conditions in care sectors, migrant care work, language use, stereotypes and discourses on good care in the region.

Olena Fedyuk is an anthropologist and filmmaker working in the areas of transnational labour migration, distant motherhood, transnational youth, and the intersections of gendered care, mobility, and labour regimes. Since 2017, she has focused on transnational labour sourcing agencies, workbound accommodation and engaged in participatory action research on migrant workers’ rights. Alongside her academic publications, she has developed expertise in qualitative and visual research methodologies, with a particular interest in the use of documentary filmmaking as a research tool. Her films include Road of a Migrant (2015), which explores the role of the church in migrants’ lives, and Olha’s Italian Diary (2020), which addresses the silences surrounding solo female migration. She is currently producing three short documentaries on elderly care in Central and Eastern Europe within the CareOrg research network. Her most recent project, Funeralzzi (in production), investigates deathwork and commemoration through the repatriation of deceased migrant workers.
