Elderly care, especially when it is performed in private homes and by migrant live-in care workers is notorious for being a poorly regulated area of work. Care on Trial discusses care worker’s labour rights and the role of judicial systems in protecting them. By looking at the case of Dobrina Alekseva, a Bulgarian care-worker claiming violation of her rights before the German courts, we discuss how judges approach the issue of care and migration, what human rights and the right to care mean within judicial practice, and how setting a precedent of such court case helps workers and activists across the borders.
